Garvice Elmer Roby
June 6, 1938 – January 31, 2025

Garvice Elmer Roby, 86, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025 in Mesquite, Nevada.  Born on June 6, 1938, in Newcastle, Wyoming, he was the son of Harold Roby and Evelyn Mae (Garrett) Roby. He was baptized in the Methodist faith.

Garvice proudly served in the U.S. Army from December 11, 1957, to March 17, 1963, achieving the rank of Specialist 4 before receiving an honorable discharge.

He was a graduate of Natrona High School, Casper College, and the University of Wyoming, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Biology. His passion for wildlife led him to a distinguished 30-year career with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. Prior to that, he worked for four years as a sheet metal worker and four years as a ranch hand.

On June 26, 1969, Garvice married the love of his life, Janice Kay Jensen, in Jackson, Wyoming. They shared 55 wonderful years together, raising a family and building a life filled with love and adventure.

Garvice was a devoted father to Steven McLaughlin, Rhonda McLaughlin and Tom Roby, and a proud grandfather to Elyssa Fuller, Avery Kay Roby, and Myka Jo Roby.

He was an active member of several civic organizations, including the Masonic Order, Scottish Rites, Fraternal Order of Elks, and Shriners International.

Throughout his life, he called many places home, including Newcastle, Wyoming; Glenallen, Alaska; Casper, Wyoming; Laramie, Wyoming; Sundance, Wyoming; Jackson, Wyoming; Fort Bliss, Texas; and Riverton, Wyoming.

Garvice found great joy in the outdoors and spent his time hunting, fishing, ATV riding, and rock and coyote hunting.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Janice; his children, Steven, Rhonda, and Tom (Andrea Brownsword), and his grandchildren, Elyssa (Blade McCoy), Avery Kay and Myka Jo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Roby; his brother, Harold D. Roby; and his sister, LaVonna J. Kerns.

A memorial service will be held at a later date to honor and celebrate his life.

Garvice will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of service, dedication, and love for the great outdoors will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
