Memorial services for John L. Marks are at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 14, at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. The Pastor Mike Johnson of St. John Lutheran Church will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
Mr. Marks died at his home in Riverton on Monday afternoon, June 7, 2010. He was 82.
John Lee Marks was born in La Cygne, Kan., on Oct. 24, 1927, the son of James and Laura (Deihl) Marks. At a young age, he moved with his family to La Junta, Colo., where he attended elementary and high school.
He served with the U.S. Army occupational forces in Japan, following World War II.
He married Carol Elizabeth Torney on Oct. 10, 1951, in Raton, N.M. The couple moved to Riverton in 1961 from Gas Hills also having lived in Jeffrey City, North Dakota, Montana, Utah, and Colorado where Mr. Marks worked with seismograph crews for Ormsbee Development Co.
Mr. Marks was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 + years, retiring in 1987.
His family said Mr. Marks enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and camping. They said Mr. and Mrs. Marks enjoyed going South to Yuma, Ariz., in their recreational vehicle for many years.
Mr. Marks was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Riverton and a past member of the Meadowlark Good Sams RV Club.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of 58 years; sons, Morey Marks of Salem, Oregon and his daughter Courtney, and Galen Marks and his wife Theresa of Oxnard, Calif., and their children Erica and Tanner.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, five sisters, and a grandson, Spc. Taylor Marks.
