
Memorial Service
A Memorial Service for James “Jim” E. Blomquist, 88, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at St. John Lutheran Church. Mr. Blomquist passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, at SageWest Hospital in Lander, Wyoming. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Racine, Wisconsin.
Jim was born on October 17, 1936, in Racine, Wisconsin, to Carl T. and Ruth (Hostetter) Blomquist. He graduated from Park High School in Racine before earning a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering from the University of Wisconsin School of Engineering.
Mr. Blomquist honorably served in the United States Army as a critical skills reservist.
While serving as the best man at his brother John’s wedding, Jim met his sister-in-law’s bridesmaid, Carol J. Nielsen. They were married on August 24, 1968, at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Racine, Wisconsin. While working for Victor Comptometer in Chicago, Illinois. They later moved to Park Ridge, Illinois, to be closer to the company office. In 1974, Jim and Carol relocated to Riverton, Wyoming manufacturing matrix printers with the LRC Company. He then accepted a position with Datapoint in San Antonio, Texas. In 1979, Jim and a friend co-founded TDC in Riverton, before accepting a position with the Kelch Corporation which made lawn mower gas caps in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. In 1991, Jim and a friend opened Dynamic Arts in Riverton, which made Taekwon-do equipment where he designed a striking device for karate. Jim had a black belt in Taekwon-do.
Jim was active in his community, serving as chairman of the Libertarian party and ran for a state office several times. He also served on the church property committee as well as the Mountain View Cemetery board. A talented and innovative engineer, Jim held 21 patents throughout his career.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Riverton, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Sharon Blomquist of Glendale, WI; nieces, Paige Krist of Port Washington, WI, Jodie Vanselow of Interlaken, NY, Deborah “Debbie” Braun of Mount Pleasant, WI, Laurie Stevens of Indian Head Park, IL and Carol Schenker of Mequon, WI; nephew, David Poulsen of Racine, WI.
Mr. Blomquist was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John T. Blomquist and young sister, Mary Margaret Blomquist and sister, Janet C. Poulsen.
