Virginia “Lynne” Slawiak passed away March 6, 2025, at her home in Dubois, Wyoming after a long battle with COPD. Her family was by her side, four days short of her 70th birthday. A Celebration of Life will be held this summer.
Lynne was born March 10, 1955 to Otto Joseph and Virginia Ray (Jones) Walter in Billings, Montana. Lynne attended school in Billings, Montana and college in Powell, Wyoming. Growing up she worked on several dude ranches in the Big Timber area of Montana. Lynne lost her father at an early age, but grew up in a wonderful family.
While working for her brother, Butch, in Powell, she met her future husband, Dan Slawiak. They married on August 2, 1986. In the first week of May in 1988, Lynne gave birth to their first son, Joe. At that time Dan was appointed Postmaster in Dubois, Wyoming so the family moved. They made a wonderful life on the river east of town. Soon Lynne and Dan had another wonderful son, Mike.
Lynne managed the Rustic Pine Tavern for 28 years.
Lynne enjoyed gardening, reading, golf, and spending time with family and her many friends. She also loved to travel, visiting places like North Pole, Alaska, New York City, New York, New Orleans, Louisiana, Mexico, and Tonto Basin, Arizona.
Lynne is survived by her husband, Daniel; son, Michael and his wife, Madison Harper; her four sibling’s, Otto “Butch” (Chris) Walter of Billings, Montana, Cindy (David) Oppeitt of Branson, Missouri, Michael Walter of Thermopolis, Wyoming, and Suz (John) Marshak of Big Timber, Montana; and a large number of nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
Lynne was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Virginia Walter and son Joseph Slawiak.
