Funeral Service
Traditional Native American services for Salome J. Gambler will be held 6:00 p.m., Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Gerald Gambler residence, located at #6 Young Chief Lane. A funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2025, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, burial will follow at Arapaho Catholic Cemetery. Feast to follow at Great Plains Hall.
In Loving Memory of Salome J. Gambler known "White Wolf Standing," Nookeiht Hoxei 3ii’ookuut. Sunset was Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the age of 56. Sunrise was August 31, 1968, to Jerome Gerald Gambler Sr. and Marie Ann Moss. Salome spent her entire life on the Wind River Indian Reservation, where she was deeply rooted in her heritage and community.
She was a proud graduate of Saint Stephen’s High School, having previously attended Flandreau Indian School. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving her community, working at Northern Arapaho Child Support, Wind River Health Care, and as a teacher’s aide at Saint Stephen’s School.
Salome participated in Arapaho ceremonial traditions, cherishing her cultural heritage. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and family, caring for and being around horses, and watching her favorite television shows.
She is survived by her sons, Ricky (Jessie) Blackburn Jr., Gerald Gambler, Ace Roman, Charlie Boy, Chester Moss Jr., Ryan Gambler Jr., and Kesley Gambler; her daughter, Jamay (Alfonzo) Blackburn; and her beloved grandchildren, Zyrin, Zadaya, Zarie, Kailer, Pais, Malaya, Kerriana, Dresden, Isaian, Tanner, Akeila, John, Kayla, Sadieyes, Hayden Redstar, Kashlynn, and Red Owl. She also leaves behind her brothers, Ryan (Marilyn) Gambler Sr., Jesse (Ranae) Moss, Skeeter (Nira) Young Chief, Shawn Young Chief, Preston Moss, and Brian Williams Sr.; her sisters, Ann (Delmont) Shakespeare, Joann D. Moss, and Charlene (Don) Gambler Brown; her uncle, Darrell Hanway Sr.; and her aunts, Florence Gambler-Trosper and daughters, Darlene Lopez, Katherine Hanway, Maxine Moss, Ursula (Bob) Aragon, and Eunice Moss. She is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. We truly apologize if we overlooked anyone—your understanding means a lot to us.
Salome was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome Gambler Sr. and Marie Ann Moss; her grandparents, Clarence (Edna) Trumbull Moss, George (Salome) Birdshead Gambler, Ernest Hanway, Herman (Eileen) Moss, Harry Patrick Behan, Rita Lee, and Margaret Spoonhunter; her brothers, Jerome Gambler Jr., Tator Moss, and Jojo Moss; and her sisters, Francine Gambler LoneBear, Theresa Moss, and Yvonne Moss. She was also preceded in death by her uncles, George Moss, Leonard J. Moss Sr., Charles (Dorothy) Gambler, Lawrence Gambler, and Paul Jo Hanway; her cousins, Dean, Don, Darrell, Dallas, David, Darwin, and Charles Gambler; her son, Kayo Washington; her aunts, Delores Moss, Tekakwitha Sunrhodes, JoMo C’Bearing, Julie Brown, Vicki Friday, Theresa White, Margaret Moss Salazar, and Carol Hanway.
