Eleanor Stagg

Apr 8, 1923 - Apr 16, 2025

Private family services will be held for Eleanor D. Stagg, a feisty, 102, who passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025 in Casper, Wyoming.

Eleanor was born on April 8, 1923, in Sloan, Iowa, the daughter of Harold E. and Adeline B. (Calhoon) Lornston.

She graduated from George Washington High School in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1941, and went on to complete her nursing education at Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1944.

On January 19, 1945, Eleanor married Hollis “John” Stagg in Arlington, Indiana. After their marriage, the couple made Wyoming their home, living in Riverton and Dubois, and also spending time in Lander, Green River, and Douglas, where they had resided since the early 1950s.

Eleanor devoted 35 years to the nursing profession before retiring in 1972. She then worked as a secretary for Rocky Mountain Energy from 1973 to 1982. After retiring for a second time, she joined Central Wyoming College, where she served as secretary to the president, Dr. Donovan, from 1982 until her third and final retirement in 1988.

Eleanor had many hobbies and interests throughout her life. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint, weaving, hunting, camping, fishing, playing cards, reading, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with her grandchildren.

She was an active member of local, state, and national nursing associations, serving in various leadership roles. She was also deeply involved in the Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher.

Fondly known as “GG” she was always eager to entertain her grandson Tony, happily wearing all the crazy hats he brought her. She also cherished special dinners, movie and game nights, and evening drives to admire Christmas lights with her granddaughters.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia M. Robbins; son, Michael H. Stagg; 4 grandchildren, Melissa, Tony, Addie, and Deston; and 4 great grandchildren, Jaden, Carson, Brooklyn and Lincoln.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Hollis “John” Stagg as well as her parents, Harold and Adeline Lornston.
