A Memorial service for Gary L. Foster, 81, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2025 at Davis Funeral Home with inurnment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.  Mr. Foster passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025 at Help for Health Hospice Home in Riverton, Wyoming.

 

Gary Foster was born on August 28, 1943, in Riverton, Wyoming, to Ralph D. “Red” and Beulah M. (Brooks) Foster. He grew up in Riverton and graduated from Riverton High School in 1961. During his school years, Gary was active in the arts, playing saxophone in the band, singing in the choir, and performing in every school play. He excelled in speech and debate competitions, showcasing his natural talent and love for performance.

 

After high school, Gary pursued higher education at the University of Wyoming, where he earned both his Bachelor of Arts in English Education and a Master’s Degree in English and Drama. He began his professional career teaching English in Walsenburg, Colorado, before transitioning into other pursuits.

 

Gary’s lifelong dream was to become an actor, a passion that led him to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he spent time pursuing theater. He also worked in Denver, Colorado, for an insurance company and later in Rock Island, Illinois. For many years, he was employed by an advertising agency in Chicago, Illinois. In 2004, Gary returned to his hometown of Riverton, where he spent the rest of his life.

 

Gary found joy and fulfillment in music and community. He was a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and sang in the Chancel Choir. He deeply valued his church family and cherished the enduring friendships with his Riverton High School Class of 1961, whose companionship brought him great pride and happiness.

 

Survivors include his sister, Carolyn Hunter; nieces, Jamie (Brian Klinker) Hunter and Darci (Dustin) Neal; great nephews, Michael (Justyne Day) McCullough, Hunter (DeLane) Minard and Dashal Neal; great niece, Taylor (Dustin) Owens-Welch; great great nephews, Hollis Owens-Welch and Henry Minard; great, great nieces, Aleia Owens-Welch, Frankie, Catherine and Allison Ives; and many great friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Wayne Allen Foster and great niece, Devyn Neal.
