Funeral services for Marguerite Annetta Stone, 95, will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday Jan. 13th at St. Margaret’s Catholic Church with Father Andrew Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
A Rosary will be held 7:00 p.m. Wed. Jan 12th at St. Margaret’s Church. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home.
Marguerite died January 8, 2011 at Riverton Memorial Hospital following a sudden heart attack.
She was born January 29, 1915, daughter of William and Ida Edith (McDow) McCoy in Medicine Lodge, KS. The family moved to Colorado, Nebraska and then Wyoming.
She attended schools in Nebraska and Wyoming and graduated High School in 1934 in Torrington, WY. Marguerite moved to Riverton in 1934 with her parents to a homestead in Paradise Valley. On July 10, 1935, she married Vern Stone at St. Joseph’s Orphanage in Torrington, WY. In 1936, the couple moved to Paradise Valley and moved into Riverton when they retired in 1980. Marguerite lived in the Riverton Community for over 74 years.
She worked as a public school teacher in 1934 and 1935.
She was a member of St. Margaret’s Catholic Church, Riverton Council of Catholic Women, past religious teacher, member of Helping Hand Club of Paradise Valley for over 65 years, 4H Leader, supporter of FFA and Riverton High School. Marguerite was also chosen as “Woman of the Year” through St. Margaret’s Church in 1984 and Agricultural Woman of the Year in 1998 through the Chamber of Commerce.
She enjoyed reading, family functions, church functions, grandchildren’s sports and all celebrations.
She is survived by her 2 sons, Stanley D. Stone and wife Margaret of Riverton, Clyde V. Stone and wife Charlene of Riverton; daughters, Beverly Appelhance and husband Ray of Riverton, Elaine Darnall and husband, Glenn of Riverton, Elise Honeycutt of Casper, and Debra Stone of Riverton; brother, Bernard McCoy of Riverton and sister, Eileen Samuelson of Ellensburg, Washington; 26 grandchildren, 14 Gr. Grandchildren, and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Stone was preceded in death by her husband Vern Aug 1, 2006, parents, son-in-law, Kim Fife, brothers, Lawrence, Ambrose, Cletus, Harold, Arthur and Cecil McCoy, 3 grandchildren, Curtis and Barbara Honeycutt and Elizabeth Darnall, 1 Great Grandchild, Curtis Dean Chase.
