Philip M. Smith of Dubois died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in Idaho Falls, as the result of injuries he suffered in a four-wheeler accident on Union Pass on Saturday, July 28. He was 59 years old.
A memorial service was held Monday, Aug. 6 on the Shoshone National Forest in Dubois. Shaman Mike Greywolf officiated. Interment followed at the Dubois Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 5, 1947 in Garden City, Mich.
He had recently moved to Dubois, living the life of a cowboy after retiring from Ford Motor Company in 1996 after 30 years of service.
His family says he was an avid reader of Native American culture and loved Western films. He enjoyed horseback riding, four-wheeling, boating and Major League Baseball.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 19 years, Christine; his daughters, Heather, Sherry, and Jillian; his mother, Beryl; a brother, Ken; grandchildren, Shelbey, Madison, Avery, Alexis, Gabriel, and Aiden.
