Charles M. Shamblen of Arapahoe died Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton. He was 87 years old.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Arapahoe Baptist Church. The Rev. Joe Copley will officiate. Interment will be at the Blackburn Cemetery on Miller Lane.
There will be a wake and viewing at the home of his daughter, Laura C'Hair, 34 Red Crow Lane, beginning at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Charles Merrill Shamblen was born in Lincoln, Neb., on July 18, 1920, the son of Jesse Merrill Shamblen and Alice (Hawkins) Shamblen.
Mr. Shamblen had lived in Fremont County for over 50 years, sometime going to other states, but always returning here.
He was a mechanic who operated a wrecking yard on the Wind River Reservation for many years.
He attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the Arapahoe Baptist Church.
His family said Mr. Shamblen enjoyed the Wyoming mountains and wildlife, gardening, raising chickens, was an avid fan of Johnny Cash, enjoyed Studebakers, and loved spending time with his family, friends, and many grandchildren.
Survivors include sons Merrill Leroy Shamblen, Melvin Shamblen, Charles Daniel Shamblen, Archie C'Hair, Merrill Jess Shamblen, and Roy D. Shamblen, Jr.; daughters, Wava Marsh, Jane Causey, and Connie Johnson, all of Oregon, and Lauralee C'Hair; grandsons, Roy D. Shamblen, Jr., Jordan Shamblen, Christopher Michael Monroe, and Joshua Monroe; granddaughter, Marcella J. Monroe, and numerous other grandchildren and adopted grandchildren; brothers, Roy Shamblen of Texas, and Lynn Shamblen of Pennsylvania; a sister, Norma Shamblen of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace (C'Hair) Shamblen; his parents; sisters, Wilma and Betty, and a granddaughter, Juanita Knapp.
