Dear Bea and Gary,

Gene was such a good friend to my dad and mom. I have very fond memories of attending an administrative conference in Dubois with my parents in the early 1980s. Gene had me laughing until I cried and maybe, just maybe, he rode a tricycle into the most unlikely place! Talk about guy who knew how to make people smile and feel good. Your loss is heaven's gain. Just think of all the new folks to hear his jokes!

Lovingly,
Kathy Morton

We are very saddened to learn of Gene's passing. I was a classmate of his at Anaconda High. Since we lived at opposites ends of Anaconda, I didn't know him well. He was the MC at least one of our reunions. It was a memorable time with Gene's great sense of humor and his very funny jokes.

Gene was a good man and principal. He cared fot the kids and the dying community of Jeffrey City in the late 1980's. He was a great story teller and will be missed.

I had the honor of being hired as a teacher by Gene Patch at LVHS in 1979. I learned a great deal from Gene. He trusted teachers to do good work and he complimented you if you did. He encouraged new thinking. Although, I only taught for him for 3 years, I remember him as one of the best bosses I had in 32 years of teaching. He had a terrific sense of humor and made coming to work fun.

I had grown up in Riverton and remembered his refereeing days, including when he was back pedaling down the court during a basketball game and he fell and was knocked unconscious. The game was stopped and a short time out followed. He then resumed refereeing. He told me that the Riverton fans said he did a much better job after being knocked out! He followed that with a great laugh.

I'm sure he is watching some good basketball games in heaven with his cronies from Fremont County, including my dad, Tommy Hirz, Bob Porter and countless others who were our role models as we grew up.

I am grateful for getting to know Gene

My deepest sympathies go to Bea and family.

As a student at Greybull High School I thought it amusing that Gene would stand on the lowest bleacher step so he could look Moose Davich in the eyes.I later taught at Lander HS when Gene was principal one of the better principals I worked with. Anima eius et animæ omnium fidelium defunctorum per Dei misericordiam requiescant in pace.
