I am so sad to hear of Earl's passing. He was an amazing teacher and a HUGE influence in my life. I am grateful to have spent time with him sharing our love of music. He encouraged me and taught me to be a better singer. I remember his words all the time to this very day, even when I am just singing along with the radio. I will remember him ALWAYS. My thoughts, prayers, and love to Sharon, David, and the entire Stark family. ??
Jennifer (Angelovic) Allen - 10/25/2016You were truly a great man and your passion for music and life did not go unnoticed. You personally touched my spirit for guitar as my teacher in 1993 to 1995 at Rock Springs High School. My deepest condolences to your friends and family. May you rest in peace. We have sadly lost one of the greats.
Brandon Musich - 10/25/2016My condolences to you all. I loved working with Earl. He was such a wonderful man. My deepest sympathy. Dr. Lu Sweet, former Assistant Principal at Rock Springs High School.
Lu Sweet - 10/25/2016I loved Mr. Starks! Heaven has gained a choir director. He will surely teach the angels how to sing properly.
Mr. Starks was my music teacher for Girls' Jazz Choir and Concert Choir from 1984-1986 at Rock Springs High School. He was so patient and funny. He was an awesome teacher. He rarely got mad but when he did, we listened! He definitely made an impact in my singing and in my life. Sure do miss him.

Sharon and family...
I am truly saddened to hear of Earl's passing. My prayers are with you and your family Sharon. May God be with you and your family.
Sending my deepest sympathy to the family of Earl Starks. He was a very special man and a tremendous teacher. I reconnected with him just this year when I joined the "you know you are from Evanston Wyoming" site. As my surname has changed - he inquired if I was the flute player he remembered. I was amazed as it has been over 50 years since I was i the high school band and I haven't lived in Wyoming since. He must have taught thousands of students over the years. If he touched as many as he did me then his legacy will live on for a long time. To his family I wish you comfort at this time of great loss.
Terry Thornhill Boles - 10/26/2016I wish I could be there to honor Earl's memory and remember his outstanding life with all the friends and family who loved him. So funny, so talented, so loving...what more could we want in a friend, father, teacher and husband. Sincerely, Karen Love
Karen Love - 10/26/2016Sharon and Family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with your family.
We are so sorry for your loss. Earl was a huge part of our church life in Rock Springs. We still have the cassette of his songs. He had a great voice. He will be missed.
Retha & Dale Blakely - 10/26/2016There are no words to express how much Mr. Starks will be missed. He was an amazing teacher, mentor, and friend.
My condolences to the family.
Our sympathy to all of Earl's family and friends. He was a wonderful person to work with and he taught both of my sons, Kris and David, guitar. He was a positive and encouraging influence.
JoAnne Keierleber - 10/26/2016Jim and I were so sorry to hear of Earl's passing. We remember him fondly. Jim would only sing in church choir if Earl was singing because he was able to follow his strong lead. Our son Thad refined his guitar skills under Earl's tutelage. So much for us to be thankful for in having known Earl Starks.
Jim & Sharon Bedard - 10/26/2016Our thoughts and prayers go out to you Sharon and your family for the loss of one so dear to all of you. Remember we are here for you.

Mr Starks was a favorite teacher of mine in high school. He brought music alive to us at Evanston High. He had a profound influence on my love of music. He had a great sense of humor, a love for his students and his profession. May he Rest In Peace and may you feel God's love surround you in the days ahead.

I am so sorry for your loss. I always remember when we first met in Evanston, and Earl looked like one of the high school band members. Then years later we would see the two of you in Rock Springs. Earl was a very special and talented person and will be missed by many.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. Earl was a wonderful musician, colleague, and friend. I have so many wonderful memories from my early teaching years that you include Earl and your family. He will be missed.
Sandy Steele - 10/27/2016Please accept my sincere condolences of Earl's passing. I was privileged to have him as a band and choir director for my last two years at Evanston High School. During that time we became good friends. I would bring my banjo and guitar when our band went to music interschools, festivals, U of U and USU homecoming parades, and Earl and I would entertain singing folk songs of the '60's. What a great time that was! I moved to Rock Springs in 1971 and eventually crossed paths with him. He asked if I would be interested in singing in a community choir we was directing during his time at WWCC. To again be with him in a choir was a memorable experience. When he was teaching at Rock Springs High School, one of my daughters has the privilege of taking a guitar class of his. I sure hope he didn't feel that he was getting "old" teaching a child of one of former students.
Since we lived in the same housing development, I had the privilege of having a short visit at his home and was able to play his Martin D-35 12 string. I think I brought my Martin D-28 12 string to compare the models. We had fun in that short period.
I always wanted to show him my Vega banjo that had a custom long neck, but things always got in the way at my end.
A couple of years ago I say him and Sharon leaving our Smith's grocery store. If I remember right, is was in February and cold, maybe below zero. I had made a quick trip ther wearing only jeans and a t-shirt, but there was Earl wearing sneakers, shorts, and t-shirt. I yelled out to him, " Boy, you can sure tell a Native Wyomingite by the way they dress in the winter!" He stopped and grinned, waved and replied, "How are you doing?", heading back to his car.
He was a great friend and teacher. It was an honor to be one of his students. I will miss him, but have him in my memories. May he rest in peace, and my our Heavenly Father bless comfort Sharon and their family.
I need to make a correction, the word "say" should be "saw". Apologize for the typo.
Brent weber - 10/27/2016Dear Sharon and Family,
It was so sad to receive the news of Earl's Homegoing. I had the pleasure of visiting with him on the phone a few times and enjoyed our conversations together. It is comforting to know that Earl is more alive now with Jesus than he's every been. He is truly enjoying the blessings of heaven but you and his family are left with a great loss. Please know that our love, thoughts and prayers are with you all as you gather to celebrate Earl's life and mourn his passing.
Sorry to hear about Earl's passing. Good memories from playing in the Western Wyoming College Jazz Band in 1976-77, even though I didn't think I had talent. Earl was patient and we had a good time. Who could forget our road trip to the State Pen in Rawlins (now the Frontier Prison) and other small towns? What an experience going through the double gates and the back door to get on stage. The prisoners sure appreciated our being there.
George Pryich - 10/28/2016Dear Sharon, I am just stunned to learn of Earl's passing. I had noticed that he wasn't posting on facebook and wondered if you were maybe traveling. I certainly didn't expect this. I remember so fondly all the fun years we spent in Evanston with both of you, having dinner and laughing. Tom passed away two years ago and I know how empty your life feels right now, after 53 years of togetherness. Please remember the good things and know that SO MANY people remember both of you with great fondness and appreciate what you have given in your lives.
Patty Potter - 10/29/2016I remember Mr. Starks from Evanston High school in the seventies. Great teacher. Also had Sharon as my third grade teacher in Evanston. Both awesome teachers and great people. I think I had a crush on Mrs. Stark in third grade and remember she had a broken leg from skiing I think that year. You both had a great impact on myself on many students.
Louis Defa - 10/30/2016Thinking of you Sharon... Much love... Jill Schrade-Channell
Jill Schrade-Channell - 10/30/2016Mr. Starks was a great teacher. I enjoyed his time in Evanston where I was fortunate enough to be able to have him as a choir director. Rest in peace
