So sad to hear!! She was one of my favorite weekly hair clients for so many years... she had so many stories to tell, and she had such a big heart! Love you Mary 💔💔
Brenda stringham - 10/15/2024I am sorry for loss of your mother Kelly and Chuck. She was a long time neighbor and a great friend to my mother Donna Hunter and fellow employee at the Riverton Smith's. If she saw you in the neighborhood she would be the one to say hello or good morning. The same was at Smith's. She didn't need the AP system because you hear when you entered the store. She was a lovely person inside and out. I am sadden that I will not be to make it her funeral. I hope you can know that my family loved Mary very much. Take care, Nick Hunter

Angie Henry - 10/16/2024So glad I got the privledge to meet and care for Mary over the years. I loved the Sweetwater stories and her kerosene washing machine. The story of the donuts and coffee for the Riverton garbage men everyday and how some of the families still sent her Christmas cards after all these years.
Also all the stories of her support of the Riverton Fire Dept. She was so proud of her honorary fire helmet that hung in her entry way.
But most of all the stories of her children, grandkids etc. She was so proud of you all and the love in her voice when talking about you all was palpable. She loved you all so much.
She was a legend at Smiths Grocery Store and I still miss her when I walk in there.
In ending, Mary will be missed by many. I am so happy she was my friend and know this world won't be as bright without her in it. Rest in peace Mary

Sue Mittlesdorf - 10/17/2024I've known Mary for many years and always loved to hear her Hello ring through the air! I remember when I got married 50 years ago, I got tossed in a wheel barrow and pushed around the block from Trinity Luther church, right up the drive-in to Satellite. Lots of other memories of her in my heart. I've always said that when I finally grow up, I want to be just like Mary. So, Hellooooo and farewell til we meet again!!
LuAnn Plumb - 10/17/2024Mary was one of the most inspirational people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing! I will miss the fun conversations we had, the laughter, and most importantly her infectious smile. Her hollering across Smith's a friendly hello, to her telling stories of my Grandpa at the bar while she bagged the groceries. She always knew everyone and asked how their family was. Scott & Debra Osborn - 10/18/2024Those of us who were fortunate enough to meet and know Mary were truly blessed. Whenever you walked into the Satellite or Smith's the entire establishment was aware of your arrival as she welcomed you by name. I fondly remember walking into Smith's after being gone for some 20 years and her calling out my wife's and my name as if I had never been gone. My children fondly remember sitting at the bar looking out of the drive-up window at the Satellite on a saturday morning eating a donut and drinking their juice. They too say they were blessed to have met Mary.
We mourn your loss and send our love and prayers your way. Mary will forever live on in our hearts.

LORETTA HECK - 10/18/2024So sad you always made me happy when I came into Smiths, you would say hello & give a hug if needed. You are in heaven Mary, you are the greeter @ the Pearly gate. RIP
LORETTA HECK - 10/18/2024I remember getting called to the Smith's parking lot as a Riverton Police Officer to a report of a fender bender. When I arrived, a young woman told me her car came out of gear and rolled back striking the parked car. The parked car, was a brown, older model Chevy Impala with the distinctive "MARY" personal license plate. I went inside the store and told Mary what had happened. As I escorted her to the parking lot, the young woman was in tears, telling Mary how sorry she was that she had damaged her car. Without hesitation, Mary threw her arms around the crying young woman and gave her a big hug, telling her not to cry over that old car. Only Mary would respond that way!! A remarkable woman!! My sincere Condolences.
Milan Vinich - 10/18/2024We lived in WY for almost 10 years and I shopped frequently at Smith's in Riverton. I cannot recall one time, barely making it through the door, that I didn't hear Mary's unmistakably welcoming voice, "Hello, how are you?!" She was such a breath of fresh air and encouragement to many, I'm sure. In the years since leaving WY my husband and I reminisce now and then about people we met there who made an impact on our lives. Mary was one of those. If it wasn't for following County 10 on Facebook I wouldn't have known about her passing. God Bless her, she was a gem. I can just see her greeting folks in Heaven!
