No services are scheduled for Elwin Jay “Smitty” Smith, 68, who died at his home in Lander October 28, 2011. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions would be appreciated at the Amedisys Hospice.
Elwin Jay Smith was born Wednesday, September 29, 1943, in Driggs, Idaho, son of Lee O. and Opal A. (Kirkpatrich) Smith. He was raised and attended schools in Driggs, where he graduated. He later lived in Jackson and then Lander for 45 years.
He married Dorothy Bartholomew on April 27, 1997.
Smitty enjoyed hunting, horse-back riding, camping and anything that had to do with the outdoors.
As a mason, he worked for 35 years in several western states and Alaska.
Survivors include his daughter, Michelle Lynn Smith of Boise, Idaho; brothers, Gary Smith of Idaho Falls, ID, Sidney Smith of Tetonia, ID; sisters, Julia Helderman of Idaho Falls, ID, Sandra Stewart of Driggs, ID, Jane Smaellie of Apache Junction, AZ, Mae Phillips of Vancover, WA, and Carole Quinn of Golden, CO; also by his late wife’s children, Joseph, Joshua and Jade and her grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife and Dorothy’s daughter, Kim.
