Walter E. Pfisterer, 91, of Riverton died Friday, February 13, 2015 at the Westward Heights Care Center in Lander.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. Inurnment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery with Military Honors.
Walt was born July 18, 1923 in Sheridan County, Nebraska, the son of Leo R. and Nella (Plew) Pfisterer. His mother died three months after his birth and he was raised by his father and stepmother Clara (Eichenberger) Pfisterer and maternal grandparents Edgar and Lola Plew. He graduated Gordon High School with the class of 1942.
On June 23, 1943 he married Gloria Mary Loghry in Lander. She preceded him in death on December 21, 2009.
He served his country in the Army during W.W. II in Germany, in the field of explosive ordnance disposal with the 90th Ordnance Bomb Disposal Squad. He was honorably discharged as Staff Sgt. He was a rancher until 1942 North of Gordon, Nebraska and became a plumber moving to Riverton. He purchased John Simon Plumbing in 1954 partnering with Jim and Charlie Cook later becoming Service Plumbing. Walt retired in 1985.
He was a member of the V.F.W. and the Elks Lodge. He was a founding member of the United Presbyterian Church of Riverton and was instrumental in the building committee. He served as Deacon in the church at one time.
His family said he enjoyed fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, building grandfather clocks, family functions, telling stories and reminiscing history. His family said he had a good sense of humor and loved his family.
Survivors include sons, Gary Pfisterer and his wife Cinde and Greg Pfisterer, grandchildren, Lantz Pfisterer and his wife Dawn, Phil Pfisterer and his wife Jenny, Lauren McKiernan and her husband Nick, nine great grandchildren, Caiden, Keanan, Cale Walter, Nora, Stella, Luci, and Olive Pfisterer, Torrey and Tyler McKiernan, all of Riverton; sister, Irene Thomas of Las Vegas, Nevada; four nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; step mother, Clara, infant daughter, Linda and his sister Eleanor Myers.
