Rodney Harold Bracken of Riverton, WY died Friday, January 15, 2016 at his home with family and friends at his bedside. He was 72 years old. Per his request, there will be no funeral service. He will be cremated and his ashes scattered with his wife’s at a later date.
Rodney Harold Bracken was born October 31, 1943 in Riverton, WY. He was the son of Charles Ray Bracken, Sr. and June Sylvia (Wolff) Bracken. He grew up on the family farm/ranch 8 miles northeast of Riverton by the Wind River.
Rodney attended Riverton Schools and later received his GED at CWC. In 1964 he married Elizabeth Dunn and they had a daughter prior to Elizabeth’s passing eight months later. In 1966 he married Iva Burton and they had two children and later divorced. He then married Jane Konkel, the love of his life, on December 24, 1981.
Rod worked for Logan Packing, Heil’s Implement, and Miller Construction while living in Riverton. He then moved to the Gas Hills and worked for Federal Partners for ten years. In April of 1989, Rod and Jane moved to Clearlake, CA where he worked for Jerico Products in Petaluma CA until his retirement. After his wife Jane passed away, he retired and moved back to Riverton in 2012.
Rod enjoyed camping and fishing. In his younger years he rode dirt bikes with a friend and explored all over the Gas Hills area. He also loved racing stock cars back in the day. He loved growing beautiful roses and giving them away, he loved watching old westerns on TV but his favorite pastime was going to the casinos.
Rod is survived by his three children, daughters, Patty Miller and her husband Mack of Riverton, and Robin Hall and her husband, Brian of Groesbeck, TX; son, Rodney Bracken, Jr. and wife Carla of Weatherford, OK; his brothers, Charles Ray Bracken Jr. of Riverton, Marvin Bracken of Belgrade, MT, and Ken Bracken of Denver, CO; his sister, Connie Weber of Riverton, WY and Debbie Coggins of Albany, OR; his 17 grandchildren; his 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephew. Also special aunt and uncle, Pat and Roger Taucher of Sacramento, CA and special friends, Vic Evans and Gary and Janet Pelcher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and June Bracken; his first wife, Liz; his third wife, Jane; his brother, Robert LeRoy Bracken; and his brother-in-law, Lyndall Weber.
There will be no services per his request but on January 30, 2016 at noon there will be a Celebration of Life gathering of family and friends at 920 East Lincoln in Riverton, WY, followed by the scattering of the ashes.
