Kathleen "Kathy" McFarland

Dec 18, 1951 - Jan 6, 2025

Lifelong Riverton resident, Kathleen J. McFarland (Kathy), passed away peacefully with her family at her side at her home on Monday, January 6, 2025, due to advanced Parkinson's Disease and Dementia.

Kathy was born December 18, 1951 to Tim and Joyce Coleman at Riverton Memorial Hospital. She spent her early years on the family homestead farm in Hidden Valley, then moved into Riverton when her father started Coleman Flying Service. Altho’ she never obtained her private pilot's license, she soloed in her dad's airplane on her 16th birthday.

She was a fiercely loyal and devoted mother to her five sons, always volunteering to help with school projects, activities, or supplying food for any need. She held numerous jobs in the community including working at gift and clothing stores, performing secretarial work at various professional offices, but was most well-known for and recognized in her little yellow school bus where she was employed for 24 years by Fremont County School District 25 transporting Special Needs students. She had a special place in her heart for them and they loved her and would always greet her with hugs if they saw her outside her role as bus driver.

Kathy was a devoted follower of Christ, having memorized much of her well-worn Bible, and was very active in her church. She was a source of encouragement, counsel, and inspiration to everyone she encountered. She and her family started Cornerstone Community Church in 2006, and altho' she was unable, due to failing health; to attend church in the newly constructed building on Riverview Road, she was thrilled to see God's hand at work in the community.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Scott; her five sons, Steve, Seth, Scott, Josh, and lan; 15 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Travis; her parents, Tim and Joyce Coleman; her brother, Tim Coleman Jr; and her sister, Sharon Smith.
