Vannis “Van” Dennis Parkhurst longtime Riverton, Wyoming resident and beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Skyline Heights Nursing and Rehabilitation in Billings, Montana. He was 97 years old.

Van was born on October 1, 1927, in Berwyn, Nebraska, to William S. Parkhurst and Hannah (Sims) Parkhurst. In 1940, the family moved to Missouri Valley to farm. Van graduated from Shoshoni High School as part of the Class of 1946, starting his journey into a life defined by hard work, devotion, and a deep love for family and the community of Riverton.

On April 16, 1950, Van married the love of his life, Noreen Isabel (Currah), at the Episcopal Church in Missouri Valley. Together, they shared 74 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. In 1968, the couple became devoted members of the Riverton United Methodist Church, where they built lasting friendships and contributed to their faith community.

Van was an active member of the Riverton Lions Club and the Riverton Elks Lodge #1693, organizations through which he gave back to the community.

An avid outdoorsman, Van found joy in hunting and fishing, enjoying the natural beauty of Wyoming. He and Noreen also enjoyed traveling and exploring the country with friends they met through their RV adventures. They were proud members of the Family Motor Coach Association and the Beaver Ambassador RV Club, where they shared their love of travel.

Van’s career reflected his dedication and entrepreneurial talent. He worked for various automotive companies in Riverton, ultimately purchasing the NAPA Auto Parts store in 1970, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. His commitment to providing excellent service earned him the respect and appreciation of employees and customers alike.

Van is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Noreen; his sons, Paul Parkhurst of Billings, Montana, and Dale (Marcia) Parkhurst of Riverton; and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Jana (Ken) Pfliiger and their children Mason and Stefanie Pfliiger; Kara Mosley and her daughter Laila; Jennifer Parkhurst; and Laury Harris and her son Jacob.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hannah Parkhurst, and his brother, Paul Ralph Parkhurst.

Van will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. A public celebration of his life will be held and announced at a later date to honor the remarkable man he was and the legacy he leaves behind.
