Memorial services for Shirley Leona Tanner, 88, will be held 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Thurman of United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions to the Little Wind Hospice, 716 College View, Suite C, Lander, WY 82520.
She died April 29, 2010 at her home in Riverton.
Shirley was born May 23, 1921, in Rockford, Illinois, daughter of David and Helen (O’Donnel) Hunter. She graduated high school in Rockford and then attended Secretary School before moving to Wyoming when she was 21.
July 20, 1942, she married Wesley Tanner in Rockford, Ill.
She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, Eagles Auxiliary, Busy Matrons, Toast Mistress, and the Red Cross.
Shirley enjoyed reading, going to Saturday night dinners with family, spending time with family, especially her grandchildren, camping, fishing, and going to the Senior Center. She also loved to travel on senior trips, she made lots of friends wherever she went, playing cards and her family said that she was very patriotic.
Survivors include her sons, Wesley Tanner of Savannah, Georgia, Mark Tanner of Riverton, Owen Tanner of Rock Springs, WY, Pete Tanner of Casper; daughers, Barbra Devons of Rhode Island, Rita Tanner of Casper, WY, Nancy Tanner of Billings, MT, and Alice Reynolds of Riverton, 19 Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren, her best friend Lila Bonnel of Riverton and her faithful dog, Grizzly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wes, granddaughter, Monica Tanner and her parents
