Marshall Watne

Watne, Marshall

I had Mr. Watne as a band instructor for sixth through eighth grades many years ago. He was a kind-hearted, intelligent , musical teacher. I always appreciated what he could accomplish with a group of beginning band students! My thoughts are with his family....

My thoughts & prayers go out to Mr. Watne's family, Our community gained many talented students thru his dedication. I was a cook at Riverton middle school & would enjoy hearing the progress he made with his new students thru the years. Oh the tales we would share about our hunting trips too... peace be with you.

I am one of the many people who benefited greatly from being one of Mr. Watne's music students. Band was my home at school, and I appreciate the work and patience Mr. Watne put into my music education. Not just anyone could have survived middle school band for so many years, let alone truly inspired so many kids to love music. My condolences to his family and tge community on this loss.

Wonderful man. I am thankful I had him to encourage me. So he has his own hardships, he saw the light in other people.

Patricia Wilhelm Gilliam - 11/3/2015

Mr. Watne taught me a love of Jazz when I was 12 and entered the (then) Riverton Junior High Band in 1976. I still play my trumpet and expose my in-laws to music they never thought they'd like.

Rest in peace, teacher and friend.

I attended Hulett High School and marched in Mr Watne's Band and tried to sing in the Choir. He told me to sing quietly, because I have no musically
talent. LOL

To Mr. Watne's family, my heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you. There is much to celebrate in his legacy as teacher, and a teacher of music. The impact is beyond measure the lives he touched by take young men and women and allowing them to call themselves musicians. I too, like many here still have and play my instrument (trumpet) because he helped us to enjoy what we were doing. And it is a gifted that I am sure has been passed on through his students. This is quite a celebration of life and legacy I am sure you are very proud of.

Blessings

My sincere condolences to the family. Mr. Watne was a really great, patient teacher who made my Junior High experience great. I remember him fondly.

Mr. Watne was instrumental [oh, yes, I did.. and he would chuckle] in my musical development. He was one of only three band directors I had in all my years in Riverton public schools. In 8th Grade "Stage Band" I discovered the flugelhorn when Mr. Watne assigned me the solo part on a song called "For Chuck". I also got my first start in learning to improvise in that band, and an introduction to chords that has served me well ever since.
I know I was just one of many students who owe him much credit to have music a major part of their lives, even if it's not their livelihood.

Robert Harsch - 11/6/2015

Rest in peace Mr. Watne. Thank you for sharing your love of music with thousands of kids. You made a difference. Thanks for the memories and for teaching me to appreciate music. Peace to your family. You will be missed.

Teresa (Blair) Nirider - 11/6/2015

Thank you the Wayne family. Mr. Watne awakened my love for music in junior high. Jazz band was my goal and he opened that door for me. Im teaching music now and he was one of the motivators to start me in that direction.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
